Color of the year: Alabaster

Pardon me for writing three posts in a row about paint, but I LOVE to talk about color. It’s just about my favorite thing!  And I always specify Sherwin-Williams paints – while any paint formula can be matched and mixed anywhere, I like Sherwin-Williams for their color tools, color forecasting, quality of paint, and support of the design industry in general.

So, when my favorite paint manufacturer announces their pick for “Color of the Year”, I sit up and take notice.  This year, it’s Alabaster SW7008, “a hue symbolic of new beginnings”. That’s funny, because I’ve been singing the praises of the all white-on-white bathroom for awhile now.  Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing at SW, says: “Alabaster represents a straightforward and necessary shift to  mindfulness, well-being and an atmosphere that is pure. It provides an oasis of calmness, spirituality and ‘less is more’ visual relief.  Alabaster is neither stark nor overly warm, but rather understated and alluring.”

Wow, I couldn’t have described the feeling I’d want MY bathroom to have any better than that.  Whether an all white-on-white design is right for you or not, at least consider how the various elements of your bathroom would look in this palette.  Eggshell cabinets, creamy white solid surface or quartz tops, wall color, tubs and shower walls.  Scan houzz.com and pinterest for white-on-white inspiration. You’ll find an ample supply!

While Alabaster may be the color of the year, I predict a well designed bathroom in this palette will stand the test of time and maintain its classic good looks forever.
